Private Robert Wilson Moore

 

This North Irish Horseman was probably the Robert Wilson Moore born on 29 November 1897 at 20 City Street, Belfast, the last of two children of carpenter (later farmer) Thomas McCleave Moore and his wife Rachel (née Fletcher). At the time of the 1911 Census he was living at Broghan, Ballyards, County Armagh, with his parents and a half-brother from his father's previous marriage.

Moore enlisted in the North Irish Horse between 6 April and 14 May 1914 (No.939 – later Corps of Hussars No.71172). On 9 February 1915 he embarked with a reinforcement draft for France, where he was posted to A Squadron.

Moore remained with the regiment throughout the war. On 28 February 1919 he was demobilised and transferred to Class Z, Army Reserve.
